I found this great non profit organization this morning through an email from the folk’s over at OXO. :)
Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded by two parents’ whose son, Liam was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. They learned that the main reason that over 25% of kids diagnosed with cancer don’t survive is because of a lack of effective therapies. The lack of effective therapy is due, in large part, to a lack of funding. Liam’s parents were looking for a way to support the development of new and better treatments by finding a simple and easy way for people to get involved and spread the word. They held a bake sale, with a goal of selling 96,000 cookies. Gretchen had a simple idea and a larger-than-life goal. After the involvement of families with children affected by Neuroblastoma, and the help of so many people in the community, they had sold ALL 96,000 cookies and raised $400,000 for pediatric cancer research.
How Can You Help?
And If You’re A Blogger…
The “Good Cookie” Spatula:
The OXO limited edition “Good Cookie” Spatula helps fund pediatric cancer research. OXO has committed up to $100,000 in 2011 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, an organization close to our hearts. Find out more about our partnership with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer here.
Etched with an inspirational message that serves as a reminder to “Be a Good Cookie”, the Cookie Spatula combines the strength of stainless steel with the advantages of silicone. Great for non-stick cookware and bakeware, the Spatula’s thin, flexible edge glides easily beneath all foods and is the perfect size for getting between cookies on a crowded baking sheet or removing one brownie at a time from the pan.
With a rounded corner that’s great for getting sticky dough out of a spoon and an angled handle that keeps your hand away from fragile foods and hot dishes, the Cookie Spatula makes a perfect companion for every baker.
