Today has been absolutely fabulous and such a refreshing start to a great weekend! First off: breakfast. I have always been a huge fan of oatmeal, but given that a serving of oats only has a measly 150 calories, it obviously doesn’t have much staying power, so I typically try to choose breakfasts with more protein. Well, I finally decided to try some overnight oats mixed with a cup of plain Oikos greek yogurt, a few packets of sweetener and a dash of cinnamon. The verdict? PERFECT! Oh my goodness. This was literally the best breakfast to wake up to. The oats had blown up from sitting in the fridge overnight, and it was SO thick and creamy. The 15g of protein in the yogurt definitely gave me the “staying power” that I’ve been looking for and stuck with me all the way until about 2 o clock this afternoon. Yay! :)
The morning was spent doing a whole lot of nothing, and I was perfectly alright with that. I just kind of bummed around and caught up on a few shows that I’d missed this past week. Around 2 I started getting hungry again, but knowing that I was going to workout at 3, I didn’t want t eat too heavy of a lunch, so I stuck with a half of a grapefruit and a mixed salad that included: ham, cucumber, red peppers, pickles, tomatoes and a ton of spinach. It was so delicious! I prefer making my own salads to going out and getting a pre made one any day of the week. The only exception would be the AMAZING salad that I shared with my grandma at the Matchbox in Palm Springs last year. It was a delicious spinach salad with candied pecans, roasted pear, feta cheese and a warm raspberry vinaigrette dressing. I’m a sucker for candied pecans. :)
After eating and getting ready, I headed to the rec to get in a good sweat session, and that it was.
Today’s workout looked like this:
My cardio began with a two mile run at 6.7mph before completing this 30 minute run/ incline walk workout:
Since my workouts the past few days have been intense and very ab focused, I decided to go a little lighter on circuits today.
Side dips- 35lb plate, 15 dips per side (x3)
Suspended leg lifts- 10 (x3)
Leg lifts with yoga ball- 10 reps (x3)
Bicycle- 50 reps (x2)
Outer leg lifts- 100 per side
Inner leg lifts- 100 per side
Half moon crossovers- 20 per side
I rounded everything out with A LOT of stretching and foam rolling. I really need to just invest in my own foam roller because it seems to be the only thing that loosens up my legs after long runs. I did notice the other day on Courtney’s blog that she found one at Walmart for about 15 bucks, so I will definitely have to check that out!
Today has also held a few surprises…
1. My phone was finally able to be upgraded and I got my very first iPhone! :)
I’m still working on figuring out all of the cool things that it does, and I have kept myself insanely busy today leaving zero time to figure it out, but I have used FaceTime to video chat with my sister and that was A LOT of fun. So, Grandma: I have to teach you how to use FaceTime on your phone and we can video chat together all the time! :)
2. The second thing that was great today was that when I was ready for dinner, I completely botched my plan for spaghetti squash and in a moment of not being too hungry because I had just finished working out, I decided to power clean my entire room and bathroom. Everything is cleaned, dusted, vacuumed, mopped, bleached, dishes cleaned, sheets cleaned, new air fresheners plugged in, etc… It lookes GREAT!! I’m super anal about everything being clean and orderly in my room, which you wouldn’t expect, but it’s the only way that I can function to be completely honest.
By the time that I had finished cleaning and going over homework, it was about 30 minutes ago and I STILL have yet to eat dinner, so I have a big bowl of popcorn waiting for me along with a movie! I rented Abduction, which actually got pretty good reviews, so I’ll have to let y’all know what I think tomorrow!
Hope this finds you having a fun and safe Friday night! Holla for the weekend!
