I’ll Take The Tangerines

I’ll Take The Tangerines

Hello hello hello! :)

It’s been such a great day so far.  I didn’t have much on the agenda today except for a meeting with my boss and working the desk for a couple of hours, so I forced myself to stay in bed as long as possible this morning to catch up on sleep.  Best.  Choice.  Ever.

When I woke up at 10:30, my tummy was a rumblin’ for some breakfast!!  Do you ever have days where you are just hungry ALL DAY?  Yeah.  Me too.  I find that it’s typically on days following lifting weights in the previous days workout, which would make sense given that weights/ resistance training burns more fat than cardio and speeds up your metabolism a ton.  I think that so many girls are afraid to lift weights because they are afraid of “bulking up”.  Now, that could happen depending on how you approach your workouts, but it’s all about educating yourself on ways to weight train in order to “lean out”, or develop lean muscle mass.  This typically would involve lighter weights and more reps of each exercise.  I also find that doing circuit training (taking two or three separate exercises and doing one set of each in a row, resting for 30 sec, and then repeating two more times) is very effective as well.  There are so many different articles that talk about muscle versus fat in our bodies, and many say that muscle weighs more than fat.

Fact of Fiction?

Fiction.

5 lbs of fat and 5lbs of lean muscle weigh the exact same.  5 lbs.  Muscle, however, is much denser than fat.  This is a GOOD thing though.  Muscle burns increases your metabolism and burns more calories at rest than fat does, which obviously improves your overall health and helps tremendously with staying in shape.  I found an interesting article talking about the space the fat takes up in our bodies versus muscle and this was the example it gave:

5 lbs of fat take up the space of three grapefruit while 5 lbs of muscle take up the space of three tangerines.  HUGE DIFFERENCE. I’ll take the tangerines! :)

Ok, so now that I’ve finished up with that little tangent; breakfast!

Again... :)

This is a recycled photo from yesterday, but I literally ate the exact same thing, so it’s ok.  However, I think that I may have put a little too much water in last night because the consistency this morning was a little bit runnier than I like.  They were still delicious though, and very filling.

I spent the morning running a few errands, working on homework and catching up on The Lying Game (which ALL OF YOU should watch because it’s AMAZING) .  Around 1 I ran down to the dining hall to grab lunch before my meeting and the funniest thing happened.  See, I’m weird and picky about my salads.  I like to cut up my own tomatoes from the condiments area near the grill because the tomatoes are sliced rather than cherry tomatoes.  I usually cut up a bunch of tomatoes and grab a big spoonful of sliced pickles to bring over to the salad area and have them put it in with whatever else I want.  Well, I forgot to do this today and when I got to the salad area, the woman working (who knows me VERY well from all of my salad eating endeavors) immediately said, “Where are your tomatoes and pickles woman?!”  I busted up laughing and thought it was hilarious that she knows me that well.

In the mix today was a little turkey, a little ham, tomatoes, pickles, mushrooms, green and red peppers and mixed lettuce.  SO good.  :)

Time to go work on some homework and watch the State of the Union Address from last night for a class.

T-2 days until Shrimpfest!! :)
