Building Those Bombshell Muscles :)

Building Those Bombshell Muscles :)

Today’s workout was HARD!  Oh my goodness.  I didn’t realize just how much arm strength I DON’T have until now.  I mean, I’ve always known that my upper half was a little on the weak side, but man oh man.

The workout today was focused on Biceps/ Back which Jamie calls the “bombshell” muscles.  So, if it means being a bombshell… I will ABSOLUTELY endure the pain involved.  :)

Here's a closeup of the actual exercises I completed today and my scribbled notes

all I can say is that by the time I got to the standing bicep cable curls, I was WORN OUT.  I struggled to complete these, but I just kept thinking… “I want to be a bombshell, I want to be a bombshell…”  Haha!

Upon arriving home from the gym, I made up a quick post- workout snack of 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese mixed with one heated turkey muffin.  One thing that I LOVE about cottage cheese is that you can take it any direction because it really doesn’t taste cheesy.  You can mix it with any kind of meat to make it more savory, or throw in some Splenda, cinnamon, peanut butter, apples, jam, or crumbled up protein bars to make it a sweet snack that packs in a huge punch of protein!  It took me awhile to figure out how to enjoy eating cottage cheese, but now that I have, expect to see it popping up on here ALL the time!  It’s such a healthy and filling snack.

After cooling down, I whipped up another batch of pumpkin protein bar batter!  I decided to sprinkle cinnamon and splenda on top of the batter and swirl it in to create a great sweet top layer.  It was definitely a good choice!

This picture makes them look a little funky, but once I eat one later I will take a picture of the individual piece and you will see just how wonderful they look!  Trust me, they taste incredible!  If you’ve ever had a pumpkin muffie/ muffin from Panera, then you know exactly what these babies taste like.  Thank you Jamie Eason for creating such a wonderful healthified recipe!! :)

I allowed them to cook a bit longer than the last batch because, as much as I like them a little gooey, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to eat them all by this week, which means that I’ll be taking some with me to Fayetteville and I didn’t want them falling apart on the ride.  I also wrapped them (by twos) in saran wrap before stacking them all in the fridge.  Good choice?  Yes.  I can’t wait for Kayla to try these this weekend because I am one hundred and ten percent sure that she will love them.  We basically have the twin thing going on (without actually being twins) and tend to love the exact same clothes, foods, movies (all the ones that everyone else hates), etc… It works out perfectly! :)

Well, I put the pan upstairs to cool and decided that I did not feel like cooking tonight.  I was super hungry and knew that cooking would take at least 30 minutes, so to avoid eating the whole pan of protein bars as a pseudo dinner; I headed to the dining hall and made up a huge salad.  It hit the spot more than you would believe.

The photo makes it look kind of puny, but I promise that it was quite large!  I combined spinach, turkey, pickles, red peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and peas to make a delicious and fresh tasting dinner.  Dinner always tastes better when the prep work is done for you!

Well, it’s looking like tonight is going to be a lounge in my bathrobe, finish homework, catch up on shows and read before bed kind of night.  The perfect kind to be exact! If you haven’t read the Hunger Games, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read it.  It’s just SO good.  I can’t even begin to explain.  I had a hard time putting it down at 3am to force myself to go to sleep last night.  DO IT!

Spicy Sprouts!!

Spicy Sprouts!!

Today’s workout was fantastic!  I actually cut my run back five minutes because my ankles were pretty sore from yesterday and because I could feel my toes bleeding.  Sick, I know.  It happens all the time though!  I think that my middle toe on my left foot is a little crooked because it only happens on that foot.  Weird!

The run looked like this:

Run, run, run as fast as you can!

After running, I headed downstairs to the weight room to begin a pretty good ab workout.  I decided to forego arms today because they are SUPER sore and definitely needed to rest.

The ab workout looked like this:

Side dips- 35lb plate, 15 dips on each side (x3)

Criss Crosses- 25 (x2)

Jackknives- 25 (x2)

Alternated leg drops- 10 on each side (x2)

Plank- 1 min (x2)

I ended the workout with a TON of stretching because my legs were incredibly tight and I could feel my hamstrings getting sorer and sorer.  Thank goodness for the foam roller.  :)

I came back and browsed around on Pinterest for a bit and found these two pictures that I thought would be good to share.  I love this first picture because she is strong.  Over Christmas my Grandma was telling me how great I looked and she phrased it as “Your body looks so strong.”  This was literally the best compliment I’ve ever gotten.  It’s irritating to hear people say the words thin or skinny.  I would MUCH RATHER look strong than weak.  Thanks Gram. :)

So, on this afternoon’s post I put a picture that said, “Obsession is what lazy people call determination.”  I would like to think that I have a good amount of determination in my life, but specifically in my approach at healthy living.  The picture is pointed more in the direction of exercising, but I think that mine carries over just as much in my meals each day.

Want to know how determined I was to broil the fresh Tilapia filet that I purchased this afternoon?

So determined that I had to plug the toaster oven in in my bathroom to cook dinner.

Pretty sick?  Yes, but I keep my bathroom really clean!!!  I promise!

Yes. This ACTUALLY happened.

I broiled the fish along with some cut up Brussels Sprouts and garlic cauliflower to make a well rounded and very filling dinner!

A dinner that will clear your sinuses! :)

I put a dash of salsa on the fish (which I normally do), but then I decided to give the veggies a kick and spash a bit of Franks Red Hot on them.  In my head this seemed like a really great idea, but in reality it made my nose run because there was so much spicy going on on that plate!  It was quite tasty, though, so I can’t complain! :)

The rest of the night has been filled with being on duty, taking a long shower to smell good again and talking to my best friend Maureen on the phone for awhile.  It’s always so great to talk to her.  You know those kind of friendships where you just get each other without even having to say a word?  Yep.  That’s us.  A million green m&ms. :)

I bought The Help today, so I think I’ll start reading that before doing my last set of rounds and going to bed.  Yay for good books!!

Hope you’ve had a wonderful day and that you can find at least one thing to be thankful for.

Here’s a Thought:

This one goes out to a good friend of mine.  He’s a pretty chill guy, fellow hippie and AMAZING shot creator.  (Minus the golds hahaha)
